trains, computers, and other things

The train is loaded down with tanks and guns

racing the fading Texas sun

such beautiful precision

such beautiful destruction

into the dark so fast so slow

headlong into that good night we go

we can’t get there soon enough

and we’re gonna take you with us

yeah we’re not going down alone

we’ll fight the good fight again

cause we’ve been told that fighting

will prove what we believe in

technology will make us faster

and help us to define the masters

and we pray to our computers

as we build our better futures

the cars are lined up on the highway slow

headlight to taillight all aglow

over and over and over again

such a beautiful procession

into the dawn of a new day

headlong into a new yesterday

we know we’re gonna crash or else

cause history repeats itself

but we won’t go down alone

we’ll fight the good fight again

cause we’ve been told that fighting

will prove what we believe in

dressed our best for this disaster

the world is spinning ever faster

we pray to gods our fathers lost

with guns in hand and fingers crossed

to each their own

we’re all in this together

to reach the thrown

we’ll have to kill each other

the seeds we’ve sown

here in the morning sun

will soon be grown

and we’ll see what they’ve become

into the new world same as the old world

headlong headstrong headed for destruction

we now know what it really means

to be destroyed by our dreams

but we won’t go down alone

we’ll fight the good fight again

and convince ourselves

we did it for our children

front to back all in a line

we’ll toast the past now one last time

and pray a prayer for what we lost

with guns in hand and fingers crossed

the train is loaded down with tanks and guns

racing the fading texas sun

such beautiful destruction

such beautiful destruction

one million shining voices

lay your tired head next to mine

i’m not going anywhere any time

close your tired eyes just for tonight

at times like these no direction ever seems right

i want to listen to a million shining voices

give me direction amid the screaming choices

i want to listen to a million silent voices

and in the stillness, my heart rejoices

lay your tired heart next to mine

we’ll try to keep ourselves in time

close your tired eyes, i’ll watch for the signs

i promise that i will keep everything inside the lines

i want to listen to a million shining voices

give me direction amid the screaming choices

i want to listen to a million silent voices

and in the stillness, my heart rejoices

lay your tired life down next to mine

to every purpose, for all time

close your tired eyes, i’m closing mine

we’re not so alone, no not so alone

i want to listen to a million shining voices

give me direction amid the screaming choices

i want to listen to a million silent voices

and in the stillness, my heart rejoices

'our time has come' (a poem for my wife)

our time has come

i’m shaking like winter

when you hold my gaze like that

and slow down the moment

and hold me in movement

time begins to splinter

i’m breaking like the spring

when you fold my days like that

and melt down the snowfall

and hold me in freefall

your only everything

i’m burning like summer

when you roll unfazed so well

and crash down the desire

and hold me in your fire

burning towards somewhere

i’m falling like autumn

when you know my ways so well

and push down the ocean

and hold me in motion

we know the time has come

i want to listen to a million silent voices

here in the stillnes, my heart rejoices

much lately

i haven't written much lately.  things have been rather busy and i have been rather lazy.  it's odd to know how long it's been and yet i don't seem to have much to say about anything.  i am going to move this week.  a brand new house full of brand new walls and ceilings.  that is going to be a delight.  if i can only survive the process.  i feel more or less satisfied with my life at this time and that doesn't generally give me much to write about.  this is a wonderful problem to have.  i don't really write this sort of entry.  i generally only put in poetry or songs or a quick thought.  this feels odd and possibly unwise somehow.  definitely less entertaining.  at least i hope so.
